Dear All Acurileans:

As you know, all of us have been over the phone, on e-mails and on Skype, Twitter and Facebook trying to find out about our colleagues, family and friends in Haiti.  We have been  requesting information on how to best assist in this time of distress and have shared information with each other to keep abreast of what is going on.  Fortunately Adele was the first one to give information regarding Elizabeth and, later on, Francoise Thybulle communicated giving information about all our friends, including Wilfrid Bertrand.  They are all more or less well.  But still we do not know the real situation. We do not know the whereabouts of our student Jerome Lacoste and othe acurilean/haitian colleagues.

ABINIA, the National Library Pedro Henriquez Urena (Dominican Republic), ACURIL and the Graduate School of Information Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico are joining efforts to consider the protocol, the best strategies to assist our friends, libraries and archives. But first of all, the lives of our brothers and sisters. Among other things, we are considering going to Haiti personally.  We will have a conference tomorrow and we will keep you informed for you to join and/or to give additional suggestions.  As soon as we come to an agreement information will be posted on ACURILNET and all the institutional websites and circulated on CiberNotas-ACURIL-CyberNotes.  We are All  in solidarity with our colleagues, friends and families in Haiti.

Estimados Todos Acurileños:

Al conocer la tragedia del terremoto ocurrido en Haití, todos hemos estado comunicandonos a través del teléfono, correos electrónicos, por Skype, Twitter y Facebook con el fin de enterarnos sobre la situación de nuestros colegas, familiares y amigos.  Hemos estado solicitando información sobre como mejor ayudar en estos momentos trágicos y hemos compartido información entre todos. Afortunadamente Adele Bernard fue la primera que recibió información de Elizabeth Pierre-Louis y nos lo comunicó.  Posteriormente Francoise Thybulle se comunicó aportando información sobre nuestros amigos, incluyendo a Jean Wilfrid Bertrand.  Todos estan relativamente bien. Pero aún no conocemos la verdadera situación. Desconocemos el paradero de nuestro estudiante Jerome Lacoste y de otros colegas haitianos acurileños y otros amigos haitianos.

ABINIA, la Biblioteca Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, ACURIL y la Escuela Graduada de Ciencias y Tecnologías de la Información de la Universidad de Puerto Rico nos hemos unido para considerar el protocolo y las mejores estrategias con el fin de ayudar a nuestros hermanos haitianos, las bibliotecas y los archivos.  Pero, antes que nada las vidas de nuestros hermanos.  Entre las alternativas, esta el viajar a conocer la situación personalmente. Mañana tendremos una conferencia y les informaremos sobre los acuerdos para que se unan y/o sugieran otras alternativas.  Tan pronto como lleguemos a algún acuerdo, la información se colocará en ACURILNET y en todas los entornos web institucionales y se circulará por medio de CiberNotas-ACURIL-CyberNotes.  Todos estamos en acción solidaria con nuestros colegas, amigos y familias en Haití.
