International Book Fair 2011

The XX edition of the 2011 International Book fair will be held from February 10th to 20th in Havana under the slogan "Read is to grow" and until March 6th for many provinces in the country.The event will be dedicated to Jaime Sarusky, National Prize of Literature 2004 and Fernando Martinez Heredia, 2006 National Award on Social Sciences. It will be dedicated to ALBA(the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas), Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mancomunidad de Dominica , Nicaragua , San Vicente and las Granadinas , Venezuela and Paraguay and also to the bicentenary of the first Independence of Latin America , to the 220 years of the Haitian revolution and the first declaration of slavery abolition.
San Carlos de la Cabaña fortress will be the venue of such event and Pabellon Cuba and other institutions as fair sites.It is a space for the dialogue among the literatures of Latin America, Europe and those that participate in the event yearly. It offers its main richness: a people who loves reading. A people with a great capacity and disposition to participate in a cultural encounter.The previous edition reaffirmed the International Book fair as the major cultural event in the Island. Over 2600000 people attended the fair acquiring 900000 copies.
Writers and editors of 30 countries were present, 93 Cuban publishing houses exhibited together with 193 foreign ones of 27 countries in 141 stands.Coloquiums, conferences, reading, books presentations are part of the professional, academic and literary program of the event.
Many concerts of important groups, exhibitions, performances, dance and contemporary movie shows take part of the artistic program. The children pavilion "Tesoro de Papel" is also prepared for kids. Since its first edition in 1982 this event is considered as the major one of the Cuban editorial movement.
It offers a space of participation and interchange for all the entities and professionals involved in this literary world.In addition , the professional salon of the book, a place of encounter, is a center of information about the publishing houses and its profiles of publication as well as Internet navigation, printing and photocopying of documents are some of the services offered. We invite you to participate in this fiesta of art and literature with the purpose of exhibit, commercialize and exchange a great collection of important articles regarding the universal and Latin American literature.
